MVHS Media Center Supports College Readiness!!!

Mountain View High SchoolHow do we in the library support college readiness? We love to help get the word out and advertise all of the great opportunities for our MVHS students to gather information about local and national colleges and Universities.  The counselors have done a great job scheduling college speakers and setting up a college application day , visit the link below for a schedule and to sign up to come and ask questions!

I like to to use an online website for flyer creations. Being a 1:1 ipad school having appealing digital flyers is key to our online promotion. Here's a few we made for our college speakers. Check them out.....

University of Colorado Boulder

University of Oregon
I went ahead and used some of my budget for an educator's membership ( it wasn't very expensive approx. $60.00 for the year) in order to customize the backgrounds with images specific to the college being represented as well as some other perks. Another nice feature for data collection is the analytics. I can quickly provide the event organizer with the number of views total or per day and where the views came from.
Once we finish with our flyers we promote on the board outside the media center. Every little bit helps when encouraging students to continue their higher education!!

NOVEMBER

November is quickly going by and we've had some cool things going on here in the Media Center!

We ended October with a Blood Drive, the donations from staff and students were commendable!
Thanks Mr. Vasa !!

One way we can show our support for our teachers is offering up the Media Center for use for their classroom projects and units. November began with the World Languages Department setting up a very cool Día de Muertos display

The students created the display and we left it up for the following week. The students that came in the library were pleased to see their display and we observed several conversations starting because of the display, thanks to Jodi Morecroft and the World Lang department!

Mr. Walker's class came in to work on Mock College Demonstrations giving the kids a different space  to speak and present in, as well as practicing being an audience we set the tables up in a U so the kids could visit each "station" to learn about the colleges being presented. Thanks Mr. Walker!!

While we are quickly going through the month our focus this week is Veteran's Day, we chose to support the Veterans with our Bulletin Board and book display, we would like to extend our great appreciation and gratitude to all that have served!!

COLLEGE INFORMATION NIGHT NOVEMBER 17TH!!!Coming up next week MVHS will be hosting the College Information Night,  this will be a beneficial meeting for financial aid and planning as well as break out sessions with the different branches of the military.

October!

Welcome to the MVHS Mariano Medina Media Center Blog!

A little about librarianfrost..I am the current Media Specialist, Wendy Frost, and this is my first year at Mountain View High School.. We have a lovely and super helpful assistant Karrie Herring who is on her 2nd year here at Mountain View. We are working very hard to re-vamp our beautiful Media Center and we started with a cool Banned Books Display-
Student interaction and open discussions on books being banned were plentiful! By increasing our book displays and marketing for reading enjoyment  we are seeing an increase in book check outs and an overall interest in our print collection.
